A brief moment of each day.

This book arrived last night from Australia (they have it on Amazon, Alibris, etc. but none of the  sellers selling it for a reasonable price actually have a copy).  I’d ordered it after reading about it on NPR a few weeks ago. The pictures are fantastic. You can tell the camera is not an ordinary occurrence for the individuals pictured (no fake smiles here!) and the subjects’ attire captures the time in a way that I find particularly compelling.  A little nugget of unedited 20th century history.

Sadly, the files accompanying the pictures were destroyed when the storeroom they were in was flooded, but I would think they’d make good fodder for a novelist searching for character inspiration — even with only the image to work with.

I wonder if I’ll dream of these 20th century criminals tonight?
